Door County Trolley...
Half the Fun is Getting There!

by Patti Podgers

Rolling along the scenic highways and byways of the peninsula, guests are treated to the history, legends, and lore of the county’s 300-year-old history.

Since first introducing tours in 1999, the Door County Trolleys have become as familiar and recognizable as the peninsula’s blossoming cherry trees. “It’s all about providing a memorable experience for everyone who steps onto one of our trolleys,” emphasized founder and owner A. J. Frank. “I want everyone to have fun while experiencing the best of Door County.”

Comfortable and cozy, the “old time” trolleys visit some of the county’s most popular sites, as well as traveling many of its quaint back roads. Narrated by knowledgeable tour guides, guests enjoy a relaxed environment as they view
breathtaking vistas, charming lighthouses, and hundred-year-old farmsteads. With a personal approach to each tour, A. J. and his staff invite their guests to sit back and relax, as they share in Door County’s secret places.

Operating throughout the year, the Door County Trolley features three summer and fall theme tours. For many visitors, the “Narrated Scenic Tour” is a wonderful introduction to the county. A camera is a must for this 45-minute tour as the trolley provides opportunities to photograph sweeping vistas of the bay from Door County’s soaring bluffs, a portion of the Niagara Escarpment.

Door County is well-known for its landmark lighthouses, and one of the Door County Trolley’s most popular tours visits Eagle Bluff, Canal Station, and Cana Island Lighthouses, as well as the Baileys Harbor Range Lights. Tucked into the peninsula’s 300-mile coastline, the lighthouses provide testimony to a way of life long gone. The five-hour tour is topped off by a scenic lunch.

Just as twilight descends, Door County’s ghosts begin to appear. Step aboard the Trolley’s Ghost Tour of Door County and share in the tales of hundreds of sunken ships, haunted lighthouses, and mysterious happenings on this spirited peninsula. Available nightly June through October, the 90-minute tour is scary fun for the entire family!

Each trolley accommodates 21 to 25 guests in a weather-friendly environment. Seats are cushioned and comfortable. Available for weddings, family reunions, business groups, and birthday parties, the Door County Trolley can accommodate any occasion. Tours can be customized to meet special celebrations.

“Memories are made by remembering the past,” A.J. smiled, “and they let them begin with the Door County Trolley.” FIW
